Blog bounce - Brain Ginger
Subscribing to Brain Ginger - made easy.
When you are new to blogging it can be overwhelming trying to understand the language, the best way to subscribe and what all the options actually mean. This page explains for both beginners and experienced bloggers, just how to subscribe (its all free, of course).
Go to www.brainginger.blogspot.com
Via Email. (Easy peasey!)
How:
• Simply enter your email address in the box provided and click on subscribe.
• When you go into your emails you will have received an email asking you to click on the link provided to simply confirm subscription
Result:
• You will receive the weekly blog bounce via email on a Wednesday. Details you will see will include date the post was published, post title and the post itself.
• You will also see the following: You are subscribed to email updates from BrainGinger . To stop receiving these emails, you may unsubscribe now.
• To go to the blog itself click on the words Brain Ginger and of course if you do wish to unsubscribe simply click on unsubscribe now and follow the instructions.
Benefits:
• It’s incredibly easy to do and very quick.
Via ‘Follow’ Gadget
How:
• Click on the ‘Follow’ button
(I should point out that you have the option to ‘follow’ via Google, twitter or Yahoo at this juncture but below I have just detailed ‘how to’ via the Google option as an example)
• If you have a Google account already you should click on the Google icon that appears and sign in.
• If you do not have a Google account you will be required to create one by clicking on Create new account.
• You will then be given the option to follow the blog publicly or privately. Choose which suits you best and then click done. (For information on the difference http://www.google.com/support/blogger/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=106241 )
Result:
• As part of your Google account you will have free access to something called Google Reader. (Located along the top bar of your Google account, along with Google mail etc). Following a blog will create a subscription to the blog in your Google Reader account.
• When you sign in to your Google account and click on Google Reader you will see all new posts written on Brain Ginger.
Benefits:
• If you enjoy blogging and decide to follow other blogs Google Reader will store all updates for you, meaning you do not have to log into several different blog addresses to see what the updates are but have them in one central location.
• If you enjoy Brain Ginger it’s a good way to show that you are a fan.
Via ‘Subscribe to Posts’ or ‘Subscribe to comments’
• These two buttons offer you the option to subscribe to RSS feed for just the post or just the comments.
• For more information on what RSS feeds are, how to access them and the benefits, take a look at this post which I found useful http://websearch.about.com/od/rssfeedsreaders/ht/rss_feeds.htm
• Clicking on one of these buttons gives you the option to subscribe to the RSS feed via a range of different Feed Readers including Google Reader mentioned above.
Sharing good blog bounces with your friends.
If you would like to share a blog bounce you particularly like with a friend or colleague it couldn’t be easier.
• Click on the icon located at the bottom of each post
You will be presented with a pop up form where you will be required to enter your name, your email address and the email address of the friend you are sending it to. You’ll also have an option to put a message. The information you provide on this form will not be used for anything other than sending the email to your friend.
I hope this helps and happy blogging!
